Working at Butler America Aerospace and Defense was one of the most exciting experiences I have ever done. I started working here directly after graduating from Purdue University and couldn’t have been happier to start my career!
I was given the ability to solve challenging problems in a friendly and supportive environment. My position included receiving manufacturing related problems for rotary-wing aircraft currently in production for a major OEM contractor. I worked through each issue and would next present my findings to the problem. Through an iterative process within Butler, I gained tremendous experience in solving complex production issues. After my findings were determined, I presented them to senior engineers at the OEM with my proposed solution.
This would sometimes become a long process with many different stakeholders having different opinions. The proposed solution was mine so I consequently was the leader of the resolution. This gave me great project management skills and communication skills.
After my proposed solution was approved, I would next implement the solution. Sometimes this was as simple as tweaking the Bill of Materials. Often times, however, it would include a full overhaul of the component design. This is when my true colors showed. I worked with CAD software and presented my designs to the various analytical teams within Butler.
Pending their approval, I promoted my solution through the channels of upper engineering management. This could sometimes take weeks or months. This process concluded when my solution was implemented at the manufacturing plant.
